Title says it all. To put it simply, I've outgrown this site. To get in to a bit more detail:
DeviantArt and its users are at a point right now where my artistic progression can only be stifled. I don't mean to insult anyone when I say these things, but this is honestly how I feel: there are too many children on this site that don't know what they're talking about. Going back through my gallery to save all the files, I think I found only a couple of critiques of my work. For YEARS my wonky style never changed.
I got a comment recently that was the final straw. I drew a more realistic interpretation of a dragon from a cartoon, and the only comment I got was that the drawing would be better if I had used the cartoony anatomy instead. After explaining that copying the source material's style wasn't the point, I got blamed for the user's confusion because I didn't explain in the description or title that it was supposed to be my own interpretation. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how that could possibly have been my fault, when it was incredibly obvious that the drawing was meant to be a different style.
And that's a big problem in the overall attitude of the site: that's SUCH a childish attitude to take. First of all by telling me to regress to bad anatomy, and second for the unnecessary drama the user was trying to start.
Meanwhile, since I joined Tumblr, my art has improved by leaps and bounds at a much faster rate than it ever did in my time here. Plus by the very nature of the site I get more varied content in styles and quality brought right to me, without having to seek it out myself. Also, I've been uploading way more art on Tumblr than I have been here anyway.
So, if anyone here is still paying attention to me, I'll be opening a proper art blog on Tumblr eventually. For now, you can follow my personal blog, and obviously I'll make the announcement there once my art blog is opened.
I'll most likely be nuking this gallery within the week. Either everything will be put into storage, I'll delete this account entirely, or I'll leave it here but I won't be uploading here anymore - and that's not likely since I don't want to be keeping track of my content on a site I'll never visit. Actually, the best solution is probably to keep this account open to some capacity at least until I can announce my art blog, for anyone who only wants to see my art without personal posts and reblogs.
So yeah, this is just a warning in advance to anyone who would like to continue to see content from me.
First person to comment gets my 228 points.
